Somatic Resonance & Healing Touch

Our body carries in it wisdom, memories of our life events and family life events: we experience them through body sensations, the rise of feelings, the predictions of our brain and what is stored in our emotional system.

Our body's core state is regulated by our nervous system, brain signal and deeper than that, our energy systems. In Eastern studies this is also referred to as Chakra.

When we hold life events (including our birth and pre-natal existence) that have been heavy and demands from our system much more than what it is able to function within, our system can alter its functions. We experience this as nervous system dysregulation and blockage in our energy system (much is stored in suppression). Often our body (inclusive of our brain function) do this to survive the demands of life and the complexity of relationships.

What is shared here is with a focus on the nervous system and energy systems and what alters them greatly.

  1. The first is the separation from our mothers' body post birth. While this is a normal separation, if this birth process and disconnection of the cord process happens without the warm care, support and nurturance of the wise elders, then as a baby our body can register the world as a hollow place to be in and a sense of coldness can feel consistent.

  2. The second is a loss of twin if we were conceived as a twin child which can move us into persistent sense of aloneness.

  3. The third is the energy of the family dynamics both present and past. When there are unresolved issues in the family, unrecognised grief and loss then the system of a child can become overwhelmed and carries feelings that belongs to others who are connected to what has been unresolved.

  4. The fourth one I will talk about here is the betrayal wound from a relationship that is supposed to be protective. For example, if we experience a body violation like physical harm or sexual violation from those we have trusted (especially as a child) then this betrayal alters our experience of the world greatly. This also includes emotional violation where our experiences were dismissed, discounted or considered unimportant or we are fed with inaccurate information persistently which makes us doubt our reality. We become one who is doubtful of our own judgment and the world feels unsafe persistently.

  5. Intrusive medical treatment or surgery that was unaided especially in the early life, during birth (for mother and child both) and big injuries across our lifetime.

  6. Physical or sexual violation from non-family members that had shocked us and our body systems.

Some of the common dysregulation we can experience include:

  • Hypervigilance: We are in look for terror and plagued with anxiety and mistrust of others. We experience consistent mental chatter.

  • Apathy/Disengagement: We experience this world as flat and we can't access what we want in this world. It feels like too much is out of reach for us.

  • Fawning: We have a default that moves us to 'please' people often without realising initially or to respond in a way that is not congruent to the event (e.g. we laugh at sad or scary stories to not discomfort ourselves and others).

  • Dissociation: We are not fully present for our lives. We experience things in parts, we forget often and aren't fully aware of events. We may find ourselves distracted a lot.

  • Addictions: We cope with the dysregulation that we feel with the help of induced substances when we feel overwhelmed. Our choice of substance are typically connected to what our family systems (especially father) have been addicted to.

  • Overthinking/Persistent Mental Chatter: We tend to experience various mental chatter which can drive us to exhaustion and we are disconnected from the core feelings underlying these persistent mental chatter.

Events that were pre-natal all the way to five years old are the most impactful because our body and energy systems is most vulnerable then. We absorb a lot from our world and when we do that without sufficient protection and safety then our body systems are greatly affected.

As you can imagine, this can compromise our experience of our lives in this world. This can leave us disappointed and confused about being human and engaging sufficiently with this world in a way that brings us joy and enough ness. Most people do not have a full realisation of this until they work with someone who understands the body deeply and compassionately.

Deepika's sense that it is each person's birth right to experience a full life energy and to tap into their greatest healing possibilities. And the inclusion of our Soma, our body and its deep energy systems becomes such an essential part of our transformation story.

What is required is sufficient safety where the body can learn to re-organise and ro-orient to regulate appropriately in this world. In doing that, the brain has an opportunity to make new predictions of the world that is filled with new alternative possibilities that are not threatening.

When the body's response to stress and danger is appropriate enough to regulate itself and our body is able to return to a base calm and engage with life in a joyful way, then we know we have a nervous system that is in full engagement with life. We also know we have an energy system that is open and engaged with this world when we can access what we want, feel deep love and have a sense of connection to our place in this world.
